The new year is only a few short days away. I haven’t been blogging much lately and that is ok…(for now.) Instead, my time has been spent with the people I love and indulging in my favorite hobbies/activities. This past week I began thinking about what I’m looking forward to in 2016 and it was pretty easy to come up with a solid list. So without further ado…
What I’m Looking Forward to in 2016
In my elementary years, it felt as though each school year lasted such a long time. When I began expressing my concerns and impatience on never reaching adulthood, I was met with a very frank…”it will be here before you know it,” and “the years just pass by quicker and quicker as you get older…” from the actual adults.
I didn’t believe them.
Now I do. I’ll catch myself uttering these phrases now from time to time and I still can’t believe it. But it’s the truth, time just goes by faster and faster. Fortunately I look at this race against the clock as more of a challenge than accepting it at face value. Time is one thing we can never get back. So why not invest, buy in and make every day the best it can be? So what’s on my agenda to ensure I make 2016 the most memorable, successful year yet?
My friend and now co-founder, Erin Bradley, came to me with an idea for a new creative agency and I just couldn’t say no. I loved the vision, mission and creative potential. Of The People is a creative agency focused on influencer marketing and event production. There’s so much I could say, so I’m going to keep it short & mysterious and instead say you should just check out our website instead.
I’ve taken on a larger role again with Phox Charge, we’re adding some new advertising services to our core product and trying to take our revenue to the next level. I’m looking forward to the challenge and already have some exciting opportunities pipelined for the new year.
As sad as it would be, I’ve seriously been considering quitting blogging. I love to write and have my own place to share my thoughts, opinions and ideas. But blogging consistently while maintaining high-quality content is hard. Really hard. But every time I think about really calling it quits, an email will pop into my inbox asking a question about my art or our experiences living tiny….or how I started my business…and I just can’t. At least not yet. So instead, I’m only committing myself to 2 posts a week. I’ll be making a few changes and working on new project though; I’m in the midst of writing an e-book on how to tackle downsizing, I’m re-organizing the blog and adding a Tiny Living FAQ section and will be writing more about personal development and entrepreneurship and minimalism in the new year.
Not only with others, but with myself. I am so incredibly hard on myself. A lot of freelancers, entrepreneurs, bloggers etc. can probably relate to this. There is a certain amount of pressure we almost have to put on ourselves (duh, because that’s why we don’t work for someone else) but sometimes that pressure translates into other areas of our life. I’m going to try and give myself a pass in 2016 and lighten up a bit. When I beat myself, it doesn’t translate well into my relationships with others and that just doesn’t vibe with me.
Maintaining Better Balance
My manta over the past year has been ‘simplify life, maximize happiness‘ and while this mantra will carry over into the new year, another word on repeat will be: Balance. This has been an area of focus for me the latter half of 2015. I’ve finally begun getting a grip on what it means to maintain balance between the multiple areas of my life. I attribute a large part of being able to finally succeed at this because of downsizing and reducing the stress/crap in my life. Now I just have to continue finding and maintaining that balance through 2016.
Self-explanatory. Adventure, Explore, Wander… I want to do it all.
2016 is going to be an amazing year of growth, personal development and just going for it all.
