Preparing your own meals can be relaxing, nutritious and rewarding. You have complete control over the ingredients, taste and presentation. These are the things I love about cooking at home. What I don’t love is how time-consuming cooking can become. Especially for us busy professionals and entrepreneurs, we often find ourselves using this ‘time excuse’ as a reason to heat up a quick frozen meal or have an affair with the drive-thru. But I have discovered this one time-saving hack that makes meal time painless and reduces time dramatically. To say I’m obsessed would be an understatement. I save time in the kitchen with this one hack and it is so easy! What is it?
>> 1 cup portion control bags from Target <<
Yup. That’s it. Ok, you may think I’m crazy (I am) but these things seriously completely changed the way I prep for my healthy (and non-healthy) meals. Last week I did a post on simple healthy meal options for busy people. And this hack is how I can prepare those so quickly. It takes a tiny time-investment on the front end but makes the whole cooking process a breeze. On Sundays I’ll go grocery shopping. (Another time-saving tip: always shop with a list and have your meals planned out) When I get home I immediately prep all the food I’ve gotten for the week. I don’t cook anything, I just take all the yummy, raw fruits/veggies and whatever else, prep it with these 1 cup portion bags that makes it fool-proof to whip up a good, healthy meal in no time. As you can see I eat a lot of veggies, the ingredients in each bag are layered differently for different meals. I didn’t label them because I know what they are for, but if you are new to food prepping a little reminder scribbled on the front might be helpful.
You don’t have to just use them for veggies either! I’ll cut up fruit and freeze them for a super fast smoothie pack, I’ll portion out quick-cook oatmeal and mix in different dried fruits and nuts for a super fast breakfast solution or simply portion out my favorite snack so I can grab a pack when I’m running out the door. This one kitchen hack has saved me so much time/energy, I love it and just had to share!
